  1. Radio is knowledge: Radio is where many of us get our news and information.
  2. ‡Radio is a voice: Radio brings about conversations and community participation.
  3. Radio has no boundaries. It is able to reach far-flung communities with local, national, and international stories.
  4. Radio is cost effective: The recording equipment is reasonably priced, and there are many low-cost ways to share your work.
  5. Radio is easy to learn: You can learn the skills necessary to do radio quite quickly. It can even be used with very young children.
  6. Radio skills are communication skills: Experience as a reporter will improve your presentational skilld at work, home, public arenas and in your everyday life.
  7. Radio is personal: When you hear someone’s voice on the radio, it feels as if they are talking directly to you. We listen to radio in our kitchens, bedrooms, and on our phones & tablets.
  8. Radio stimulates the imagination: Because there are no pictures in radio, it forces us to be creative and to pay attention to words, sounds, and language. Radio requires you to be not just a reporter, but also a writer and a good storyteller

The power and benefit of radio being constantly accessible for your listener base is of the utmost importance for online broadcasters.

Podcasts, on the other hand, offer a different experience as they are 'chunks' of information, usually consisting of an hour or so, focused on specific topics.
NOTE: Podcasts can scheduled and streamed later - as radio!

We will clarify the differences and look where both are heading in the future.

Podcasts vs Broadcasts.

Installing & Setting up MIXXX

The settings below should work for all machines, even slow ones.

Later, you can try other settings which may look different and take advantage of specialised DJ Turntables, graphic accellerators etc. However, with bad settings, it is possible to crash Mixxx amd make it unable to start, if you do not know what you are doing. That is not the end of the world, just annoying - see the later Trouble Shooting section.

Windows, Mac OS X & Linux / Ubuntu versions are available. I am using Mixxx 1.12 beta. You need version 1.12 to do "phone-ins" easily. It can be downloaded here:

Mixxx is supported on Windows 8, Windows 7, Windows Vista or Windows XP, with native 32 and 64-bit versions. If you are not sure about 32-bit versus 64-bit, pick the 32-bit version.
